National Day in Luxembourg is full of festivities from morning to night. As darkness falls, everyone heads to vantage points around the old city to watch the fireworks. The best spots are on bridges and hilltops above the Alzette valley, where the fireworks burst in the sky and their reflections shimmer in the river far below. The display lasts about 30 minutes and ends with a grand finale of rapid bursts.
Luxembourg's national colours are red, white and light blue, and these colours appear everywhere on National Day — on flags, on clothes, on decorations and in the fireworks themselves, which are timed to the national anthem and other patriotic music.
