Pigeon Island is not very big โ you can walk around it in a morning โ but it packs in a lot to see. The island has two peaks connected by a ridge, and from the highest point on a clear day you can see Martinique, the French island just 37 kilometres away to the north. The water on both sides sparkles in different shades of blue and green.
The island is surrounded by lovely beaches where visitors swim, snorkel and picnic. The shallow water near the shore is warm and calm, and brightly coloured fish swim among the rocks. Many families spend the whole day here, arriving by car across the causeway and exploring on foot.
Pigeon Island is also home to the Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival, one of the biggest music events in the Caribbean. Every year musicians from all over the world come to play on stages set among the trees and old ruins, while the sea glitters in the background. It is a very special place to hear music outdoors.
