The Feria Juniana celebrates the feast day of Saint Peter (San Pedro), the city's patron saint, on 29 June. The fair lasts for most of the month of June, with activities building to a peak on the patron saint's day itself.
Enormous parades wind through the streets with marching bands, colourful floats decorated by schools, clubs, and businesses, dance troupes in spectacular costumes, and flag bearers. Schools compete to have the best float or the most impressive marching band performance.
The fairground areas fill with carnival rides, games, food stalls selling baleadas, tajadas, chorizos, and tropical fruit, and stages where live bands play all day and night. The sounds, smells, and colours create an extraordinary atmosphere that visitors remember for years.
The Feria Juniana also features beauty pageants, art exhibitions, sports competitions, and cultural performances that showcase the many different communities that make up San Pedro Sula and Honduras as a whole - including Garifuna, Lenca, Mestizo, and other groups.
For children, the highlight is often the amusement park area, with rides, games, and sweets. For families, the parades and live concerts are the main attraction. For everyone, it is a time to be proud of being Honduran.
