The tallest tower reaches 187 metres into the sky โ about as tall as 60 double-decker buses stacked on top of each other. At the top of the main tower there is a revolving restaurant and observation deck, so visitors can slowly spin around and see the sparkling sea and the whole city below them.
The round balls on the towers are not just for decoration. Two of the spheres hold huge tanks of fresh drinking water. Kuwait is a very hot, dry country where it rarely rains, so storing water is extremely important. The designers found a clever way to make something that stores water look absolutely beautiful at the same time.
The tiles covering the towers were specially made in Sweden and come in 33 different shades of blue and green. When sunlight hits them from different angles they change colour, glittering like fish scales or the surface of the sea. More than one million visitors come to see the towers every year.
At night the towers are lit up with coloured lights that reflect on the water. During celebrations like National Day, fireworks are set off nearby and the towers glow in the national colours of green, white, red and black. They have been photographed so many times that many children around the world recognise them instantly.
